MARKING

As a result of a non-technical survey, confirmed or suspected hazard areas are marked.
The marking is done in order to warn the local population about the danger of landmines and unexploded ordnance by installing physical barriers to exclude the possibility of unintentional entry into a dangerous area.
The purpose of marking
The purpose of the marking is to prevent people from entering dangerous areas, thereby eliminating possible  mine accidents.

There are three main marking systems:
1) permanent marking systems, which are used to mark the perimeter of the mine and UXO hazard area, the demining of which is not urgent. The structure of permanent marking systems includes a combination of markings, signs and physical barriers that clearly indicate the boundaries of the mine and UXO hazard area.

The EO marking shall be emplaced along the perimeter of SHA/CHA in a manner that it is visible from any direction of approach.
2) Temporary marking systems are used to mark the perimeter of the mine and UXO hazard area so the demining is urgent. Physical barriers are used in this system.
3) Informal (or improvised) EO marking systems are generally placed or erected by the local population. Informal EO marking systems may be used by demining organizations if there are no established signs to install permanent or temporary marking systems.
